Lived experience and purpose
As the founder of Stride Haven, I bring not only a vision for sustainable housing and support services, but a personal commitment rooted in lived experience. Growing up in an inner city community, I was exposed to many of the challenges and realities that affect vulnerable adults today. I understand how circumstances, environment and lack of opportunity can shape a person’s future, and I recognise how essential the right support can be in changing that path.
My personal journey
My personal journey is a big part of why I founded Stride Haven. Living with ADHD and Cyclothymic Disorder, recovering from a stroke, caring for my disabled parents and raising my own family have given me direct experience of how quickly life can change and how important the right support can be.
Through my own challenges, I have learned the value of resilience, compassion, understanding and having people who believe in you. I wanted to turn those experiences into something positive by creating a service where people facing their own difficulties can feel safe, valued and supported.
That is what inspired Stride Haven: to provide not just a place to live, but a safe foundation from which people can rebuild their confidence, develop independence and take positive strides towards a better future.
Professional experience
My experience with Birmingham Children’s Trust reinforced my belief that support should extend beyond childhood and into adulthood, where many individuals continue to face complex challenges without adequate support systems. By providing the right combination of housing, support and opportunity, we can help individuals build stability, confidence and independence.
Health, wellbeing and resilience
My personal experiences with health challenges have taught me the importance of wellbeing, resilience and belief in oneself. They have given me practical insight into overcoming barriers, navigating adversity and maintaining hope during difficult times. These lessons continue to shape how I engage with residents, partners and the wider community.
Why the name Stride Haven?
The name Stride Haven reflects what we want for every person we support. “Stride” represents progress through taking positive steps forward towards stability and independence. “Haven” represents safety, security and belonging, offering a place from which people can rebuild their lives. Together, the name represents our purpose: to provide a safe foundation from which people can move forward with confidence, dignity and hope.
Our slogan
Our slogan, “A Safe Place. A Better Future.”, reflects the same promise: providing safety today while creating opportunities for tomorrow.
Our mission
Our mission is to provide safe accommodation and meaningful support centred on each person that empowers people to rebuild their lives, develop independence and move forward with renewed purpose.
I believe my lived experience, professional background, community connections and understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable adults allow me to bring something meaningful and authentic to this sector. I value the opportunity to work alongside local authorities, healthcare providers, housing organisations and community partners who share our commitment to positive change.
Together, we can ensure vulnerable adults are not only supported during difficult times, but are given the opportunity to rebuild, grow and thrive.
A safe place today,
positive strides towards a better future.
